Bay Area, Day 2

The beginning of day 2 started well with some hearty breakfast at a diner near Meg and Harry's apartment. We then bought our tickets for Alcatraz online and headed into the city.

We got parking quickly, so quickly in fact that we were able to catch an earlier boat than the one we had originally scheduled for.

Alcatraz was amazing. I hope to get the pictures uploaded tomorrow. The audio tour they have is really well done. It has several guards from the prison as well as several former inmates telling various stories around the prison. It was very moving at times. I had no idea about the Native American occupation of Alcatraz. What a fascinating bit of history.

After Alcatraz we drove into China Town and tracked down some very tasty noodles for lunch. Next it was off to the beach to a place called, Cliff House, I believe? They made a good Manhattan, however. I found it so crazy that the beach was just right there. We then headed into Cole Valley for supper at a nice little French bistro place.

While we were walking around waiting for a table I happened to catch the last play of the UT vs. Nebraska game. Oh man... it really shouldn't have come down to that.

After a lovely dinner (though, I unfortunately was not as hungry as I would have liked because of my allergies) we met up with Aamir for some coffee, and then headed home.

Sunday morning we all had a nice walk around the neighborhood, and after some Trader Joe's take home salads we headed to the airport. Other than me leaving my wallet on board the plane (I luckily was able to go retrieve it) we had an uneventful trip home. Just the way I like it.

Again, thanks to Harry and Meg for letting us crash at their place and driving us around. Thanks to Aamir for meeting us on Saturday night. It's always great to see friends, especially when you can do it in cool places like San Francisco!
