Wonderful Christmas Eve and Day
I will probably not be able to complete Holidailies, unfortunately. The 12 hour delay between posts will keep me from getting up to 31 posts. The last few days I have not posted, but I have had a wonderful time, so I'll gladly take that trade any day of the week.
Carrie and I had a lovely Christmas Eve and Day with our family and some of our friends. From lunch and presents with Carrie's family on Christmas Eve during the day to fireworks with Katie and Steve that night to presents and lunch with my family during the day on Christmas and then finishing it all up with some beer with Diego and Anna last night. We had a great two days, and I feel blessed that we are so lucky to be surrouned by so many awesome people.
I just wanted to catch up quickly with my small readership and let people know that I am going to try and keep the posts coming, but I am going to make sure I enjoy my time home first. Merry Christmas!

Getting ready to head out
Tomorrow morning we head to Baton Rouge for Christmas. I will actually be staying in Louisiana for two weeks with Carrie coming back to Austin for some time between Christmas and New Years. It will be fun to be home. South Louisiana is a special place.
We should be able to knock out the remainder of our book on "tape" tomorrow. We have the last few hours of the Bourne Identity left. I actually have the second one as well on my iPhone, so maybe we'll start it too.
Leaving for an extended time always makes me miss Pierre. He's a very social cat, and it always makes me sad to leave him by himself. If he wasn't a fugitive from the law we would have gotten another cat by now, but oh well. A few days of extra rubs and he seems to be back to normal.
Tonight we are heading to Jasper's for supper. I am excited, it looks good!

Christmas Pop Singalong at the Alamo
Tonight we hit up the Alamo Ritz downtown for their Christmas Pop Singalong. It was a great time. We went through all kinds of songs from the Muppets to Mariah with all kinds of craziness thrown in for good measure.
After the show we headed outside and paraded around 6th street doing what Henri called "rogue carolling." I captured a little bit of it on my iPhone and was able to get it up on youtube for people to enjoy. Henri and the Alamo do a fantastic job on all of the quote and singalongs. If you are in Austin you should really make a point to go if you have never done it. I apologize in advance for my horrible allergy-stricken singing being so prominent in the video. In closing, here's the video:

Thank you Holidailies!
I really want to thank Holidailies. This past month has been the most frequent and consistent series of updates to my blog ever. I know most of the posts were probably totally boring for most people, but I've really enjoyed posting so often. Here's to trying to keep it up!
Tonight is the final Dirt Derby of the season. I haven't been out there in a while, so it will be nice to see everybody.
I was able to get some work done on my job stuff. I'm going to try and do a little bit more before I head out to Del Valle.
Our cat Pierre loves the Christmas tree. Though, this being Twelfth Night, it's time for the tree to come down. I figured I'd close Holidailies off with a picture of Pierre and the tree:

Back in Austin
We have arrived home. Pierre seems to be in good spirits, so I'm very thankful to Lynn, Johann, and Ed who took care of him in our absence.
We had rain until Lake Charles, but after that it was fine. I swear, we can't get a 7-hour trip anymore for anything.
We had a great week at home. We saw lots of family and lots of friends. It was a wonderful Christmas.
As always, it is nice to be back in our own home. Thanks to everybody and I hope all travelers had/have a good trip home.

Merry Christmas
We had a great day today. My Mom hosted a very successful lunch at their new house for the first time. My grandparents and aunt and uncle came over. I made the sweet potatoes for the first time; they seemed to come out okay.
After that we headed out to Carrie's parents to have our second meal. Our brother-in-law fried some turkey, which is always tasty. We spent some more time with family. A friend of Carrie's sister came over and her husband flies helicopters. It was cool to talk to him about that job. What an interesting job.
I hope everybody had a great day. Merry Christmas!

Christmas Eve
Christmas Eve when I was growing up was the big night that was always the same. It hasn't been like that in a long time, however. Not that I'm complaining here. We had a wonderful tradition, and now it is up to us to create new ones. All part of the constant changing thing that's life.
It's really warm here. It's pretty amazing that on Monday it was sooo chilly, and today it is positively warm. Crazy south Louisiana weather.
Good luck to everybody with Santa.
We're about to head out to the Alexander's for some tamales!
I hope everybody has a wonderful and merry Christmas Eve!

Driving
Today was dominated by my time in the car. We had a cleaning service coming by to do a post-remodel deep clean, so we both got out of the house at 9. I brought the Accord to the service place to fix a flat and get the every-so-often oil change.
I spent some time at Kneaded Pleasures working and when the car was fixed went pick it up. We had to get a new tire as the flat couldn't be fixed. Well, as soon as I drive out of the parking lot I noticed the steering wheel shaking and the car was pulling to the right pretty hard. So I looped around and brought it back. Turns out, another tire was developing the same problem as the first tire. As the tires had been on there a good bit of time and had a decent amount of miles, I decided to go ahead and replace all of them. I hate worrying about stuff like that on a 7 hour road trip.
I also got the battery replaced as, again, I don't want to have to worry about having a dead battery in some random location. I then head straight from there to the inspection place. Well, there is no line. So I'm thinking, wait 10 minutes and go to school. Unfortunately, the inspection didn't pass as when you change the batteries, it clears the registers in the computer, and thus, the emissions alerts come back as not ready. So I ask, how do I fix this?
Drive 100 miles.
Seriously?
Apparently so...
Okay, so let the driving begin. I grab some food, head to goodwill, and on the way to NI to get a receipt from Carrie to do some returns (I mean, I'm in the car, I might as well run an errand if it gets some miles) I notice I'm going 0 miles per hour at 0 RPM. Huh? Oh, the needles are below the pegs.
So after getting the receipt, I head back to the car place. Turns out, changing the battery does this occasionally. I found this hard to believe until I saw the guy pull the cable off the battery, put it back on and saw the needles dance and land in the right place. So with a quick goodbye and thanks I was back on the road. Unfortunately, the 25 miles of in-town errand running just got erased.
So I set out on a journey.
I went to the mall down south, then left there and headed south on MoPac until it ends, and took a left on 1826. Took that past the Salt Lick, and then went south on 105. I eventually hit the highway that The Inn Above Onion Creek is on (we stayed there a few years ago for our anniversary), and went the opposite direction toward Wimberly. In Wimberly I headed north on 12 that took me to Dripping Springs and eventually to Bee Cave and highway 71. I then took 620 over the dam to 2222, and headed home to find a beautifully cleaned condo.
And a kitty that had a little to say about being locked up all day.
Luckily, with the inspection, you get 15 days to bring it back and hopefully get your sticker for free. I'm going to head there first thing tomorrow, and then head to school to try to get a last burst of work done before we head home for Christmas.
Carrie and I had some tasty Indian food at Sarovar tonight, and then knocked out a good chunk of our remaining Christmas shopping.
Interesting day, all things considered.

Weird Day
Today was just weird. Eh, that's really all there is to it.
I watched the last Heroes for this mini-season. Interesting where they went with it. I'm curious to see where it goes in the Spring. We also finished up Chuck last night. Also an interesting twist.
With the impending trip home for Christmas, things seems feel very unsettled. The new year is always bitter sweet for me. I really love Christmas, and ringing in the new year means that cycle is starting all over and I have recently felt like I didn't get to savor it. Things are always rushing ahead. Maybe that's just life. I just remember when I was younger when I really soaked in Advent. I counted the days. The whole time really felt long and present. There was no traveling or anything like that. Now it all seems to show up so quickly, and there are always too many things to do.
I don't mean for this to be depressing or anything. I still love Christmas. It just feels more rushed these days, that's all.
I think I may need to start, gasp, running.
Okay, time to finish picking up before heading to bed.

Back in Town
It's again nice to be back in Austin. I'm at work today, and looking forward to diving into things after I get back from lunch. As a quick follow up to the comments from the previous post, I will hopefully be posting pictures of the remodeling soon.
It's cool and clear in Austin today... really a beautiful day. It would really be a great day for a bike ride. I really need to get back on that. My lack of aerobic exercise lately is depressing. The effects are pretty obvious. It is frustrating to watch several of my friends be able to eat/drink whatever they want and stay thin. I just can't do that. Without consistent, decently intense exercise, I just balloon. I like food way too much.
I need to create a Christmas list. I'm really at a loss for things to ask for this year. I don't remember ever having a year where I really just felt so non-chalant about wanting stuff. There are a few things for my bike that I could use. My poor bike... it's so neglected these days.
I really do whine a lot about being out of shape. That must get really old... I'll try and cut that out in the future.
Should I bring the bike home for Christmas? We've considered going and getting a rack installed on the Accord. I'm officially soliciting opinions from interested parties.

Christmas Spirit
Last night Carrie and I went to the Austin Symphony Christmas Sing-a-long. It was a good time, and it definitely helped me to get in the Christmas Spirit. They had a full choir as well, and a big screen projecting the lyrics. Lots of people weren't singing... hmmm. Anyway, Carrie and I both sang like crazy and enjoyed ourselves.
Afterwards we drove around scouting out Christmas decorations around central Austin. Saw some cool stuff. I'm looking forward to seeing the lights in Dallas on Friday. They are always impressive.

So I finally made it back on my bike today. Thank goodness... 2.5 weeks was way too long to go without a bike ride. I need to keep up the training through the next few weeks so I don't show up in January slow... well, slower than usual. I am still planning on bringing the bike to the Rouge with us at Christmas (hint hint).
