So here we are

Day of. Part of you never actually believe this day will come. But it has, and I'm pretty excited. And nervous... but pretty excited nonetheless.

I was hoping for a nice sunny morning... the sun in the morning I always find very peaceful. We have some clouds today, but they're supposed to burn off before too long, though apparently we're getting rain tomorrow, which is really needed.

I'll update the blog and twitter/facebook with the result. Wish me luck!

Less than a week!

Yep, it's Wednesday, my defense is on Monday. It's completely crazy.

Interesting couple of days. Yesterday I arrived at school to see a sign telling us that our building had no power. Turns out the building had been power-free since like 1 AM. I went home. Turns out water main broke and flooded the transformer closet in the adjacent building (named Taylor Hall... water and my name just don't mix apparently) and thus shut off the power, water, and chilled water to the buildings. They got it all fixed yesterday afternoon at some point, but some of my servers are still not back up yet.

Last night our AC shut off. I opened it up to check if the float shut-off switch was the cause, and yep, our drip pan was mighty blocked up. After a chop-stick didn't do the job, I used a tiny suction cup as a plunger and that cleaned it right out. And our AC kicked back on and got back to cooling the condo.

The tropical storm didn't do anything for us in terms of rain. That's a shame, we really need rain here.

Today we get more veggies from greenling. Woot.

Carrie's face is healing up. I think the scar is really not noticeable at all now that the stitches are gone. She's taking good care of it though, so it should clear up really nicely.

Okay, I'm going to get back to working on my presentation. Happy Wednesday.

I'm still alive

I know I've been kind of quiet on the blog front. Been working a lot. I got a draft out to the committee this week, which was good. I still have a good bit more writing, as well as the defense presentation to work on. So, three weeks of solid more work.

We had an exciting morning, as Carrie's note describes. I'm glad she's all okay now.

I turned in my pink form on Friday, which means I'm officially on the books for doing a defense on Monday, August 11th at 10 AM in Taylor Hall 3.128. So the schedule for the three weeks is: On this Tuesday, I have a teleconference with my external committee member to do a run through my defense for him. I will get comments from him, and probably a few other committee members on the draft in the next week and write those in. I will also be continuing to work on my presentation and hopefully give several practice talks. After the defense, hoping everything goes well, I have until Friday the 15th to get the dissertation uploaded and all the required forms turned in to the Graduate School. Then... well, then I'm done. That is, assuming everything goes okay with the defense. I'm not counting my chickens until they hatch, if you know what I'm saying.

We've been following So You Think You Can Dance this summer. And I must say, at some point in my life I'm going to take hip-hop dance lessons. It just needs to be done, because I need to be able to pop-n-lock.

Okay, back to work... ohh, I have some cookies on my desk. Delicious!
