Back at it

I am coming to my third week of really riding my bike consistently. I am starting to feel stronger, though nowhere near strong enough. The weight is starting to come off again, little by little, which is a good thing. I went under 200 lbs for the first time in a long time this week, so that made me happy.

I was feeling good this weekend on the bike, so I decided it was time for some humbling. I went ride up some of the hills near here in an effort to remind myself I'm still slow and heavy. Mission accomplished. Ladera Norte is still steep, they didn't change that. But in all honesty, it was good to get up it (however slowly).

I've been watching the stages of the Giro, and it is just so impressive how the leaders can power up those mountains. It is always nice to see the giant group that comes in many minutes down. It's nice to know that even professional cyclists aren't all climbers. (Though, comparably they can still fly up the climbs.)

Work is going well. I am excited. I should hopefully know very soon what the final destination is for next year.

Friday night we're heading to another cooking class at Central Market. Joanne Weir (a chef who had a show on PBS the year we didn't have cable, and thus we watched a lot of PBS) is teaching. I am really excited. I loved her show (I even have one of her cookbooks).

I am going out to the Driveway tonight to take part in our weekly crits. The series has been awesome this year under new management, and the addition of the 4/5 race actually gives me a workable target. We are doing the long course tonight and going up the corkscrew, so hopefully I'll hold on past the first time we go up the corkscrew. ;)

I'm going to get a little bit more work done before I get ready and head out on the bike to ride to the crits. I hope everybody's weeks end well!

Lack thereof

So after an amazing December of blogging frequency, and then a decent amount into the new year, things fell off. Like fell off a cliff.

I am going to admit, that I've been a tad bit stressed out. Finding a job is really the main thing on my mind. Well, I should say it's the main thing that's causing me stress. Other things on my mind are much less stressful. Such as exercising. Or hanging out with Carrie. Not-stressful. Finding a job, stressful.

I tend not to write on the blog when I have something like this on my mind. Not that I'm just so busy that I don't have time, but I don't feel like sharing. All in all, I am in a decent position in life. Yeah, we always want things to be better, but as I look in the news and look around, I realize that things here in our life are pretty good.

The big part of the job hunt that is stressing me out isn't necessarily the job. It's the lack of knowledge of what I will be doing. If I know what I'm going to be doing, I can plan for that. Right now I can't plan, because I don't know for sure what I am going to be doing. All in all, that weighs on me.

There is also lots of traveling going on right now. While, being in these different places is fun, it makes it hard for me to feel settled enough to really feel productive. I'm a person who likes to feel settled. This really goes back to the last paragraph. It's hard to feel settled when you know you current situation may very well have a short time frame.

The last two nights I've woken up with headaches. This morning it got much better after being awake for a little while with no medication. My shoulders are amazingly tight. I think the laying down with the tight muscles is giving me a headache. As long as I stay somewhat vertical, I don't have a pounding headache. I am hoping I can make it through tonight without the headache coming back. I am not too concerned about it because the headaches goes away. My stomach felt kind of bad today, but that may have had something to do with taking Excedrin without enough food. Of course, all of this may very well have to do with stress. This past week was particularly stressful... I think my body may be revolting.

After there is some convergence on the job front I will tell the whole tale. However, until then, I prefer to keep things on the DL.

I took just a few minutes to walk outside around the condo complex today so I could take a few pictures. It had been too long since I'd played with the camera. Got two bird pictures that I enjoyed. Admittedly I played with the a little on the computer, but nothing too crazy. That black bird was really pretty colorful on his own, but it looks better blown up a little bit so you can really see the bird.

Waiting to Sing Black and colorful, all at once

Goodnight, and have a good weekend everybody!

Applications

I've done everything that I can really do right now on the applications. I'm just waiting on a few things. Though, I have all my documents written. I will of course keep people posted as I know anything.

This process has been exhausting mentally, but I won't get into all that. I'm just going to unwind by going break into the six pack of Shiner 100 we bought the other night. 100 years of Shiner!

Hook'em!!

This post is technically "late." But with the game, I got distracted.

What a crazy game!! I mean, as Ohio State was driving there for their last score, I really thought they'd drain the clock and get it in at the last second a la Texas Tech. But they scored fast. I knew Texas' offense could pull off a fast drive, but I didn't know if they were going to be able to pull it off tonight.

The effort to get the 4th down conversion was fantastic. I was very relieved when they scored that touch down, though with OSU's crazy legged field goal kicker, I wasn't relaxed until that clock said 0:00.

It'll be curious to see what kind of game Florida and OU put together on Thursday. I don't really care if either of them wins (I wish they could both lose), so we'll see what happens.

Tomorrow, I'm not leaving until I get a sufficient amount of job stuff done.

Cold Monday

It is cold. We may have ice. That's all there really is to say on that subject.

The counter top guy is currently putting the finishing touches on things. It looks good. I'm excited to have everything done.

I need to start working on my research and teaching statements. Job application time. Woohoo.

My legs are slightly sore from yesterday's ride. It was a great ride, but it really did empty my legs out. They just don't have much in them these days. But it was awesome to get out on the bike.

Oh well, I'm going to do a little work while while the counter top guy finishes.

Work day at home

So I've decided to work from home today. The advantage of this is 1) I don't have to drive anywhere, and 2) I can do laundry all day while I work. Pierre doesn't seem to mind me being here as he is currently sunning himself on the floor in the den.

Inspired by our recent trip to the Crescent City I bought some coffee with chicory at the store. I like coffee with chicory. However, I have never brewed it before, and let me just say, I need to work on my proportions. I mean, I'm still sitting here drinking it, but it's a tad strong.

So Carrie and I have given up meat for Lent again this year. We play Catholic rules: seafood is acceptable. Mardi Gras night we went to Rudy's to get our meat fill before the hiatus. The no-meat combined with the fitness challenge that we are doing (through NI) I am hoping will help me shed some pounds and get more in-shape.

I need to pick up some old-style Look cleats so that I can attend an occasional spin class at the gym. It's a convenient way to get some time spinning my legs when I don't have the time to actually get out on the bike.

I am officially starting my job search. Have I mentioned how much this is stressing me out?
