Living in a Half-Empty Condo

Our condo feels very empty and bare. I mean, it’s in no way empty. There’s still furniture in there, there are still clothes, and food, and stuff like that. But it definitely isn’t what it was just a few days ago.

We have purged a lot of stuff. Anything that was halfway useable has been donated. We unfortunately had to throw away a lot of well, trash. But we have organized, and cleaned up, and re-evaluated if we really needed stuff. A lot of times, that answer was no. Stuff that 6 years ago I would have never thought of giving away I was like, “out of here.”

Part of that is just not wanting to move stuff. Part of it is realizing that if I haven’t touched it in the 6 years we’ve lived in the condo I probably don’t need it. There are a few things we have kept for sentimental value, but I think that line has to be drawn somewhere. You have your memories, you don’t need a ton of objects to remind you of them.

So now our place is semi-staged. I’m sure the realtor will want us to move items around a little, but we are going to try our hardest to keep the place in this weird state of clean and staged until it sells. This unfortunately means keeping Pierre in the “cat apartment” every day. That is the enclosed balcony off of our bedroom. He is not a big fan of this plan, but what are you going to do. We can’t have the cat roaming freely with the chance of people showing up to look at the condo.

I am hoping that the condo sells quickly for lots of reasons, obviously. If it could sell before I leave work at the end of May I would be thrilled. To not have to deal with perspective buyers coming by when I’m off would be great. Now, this isn’t a big deal, but it would be nice.

I think the condo has cleaned up pretty well. We have fixed up a lot of little nagging things that have been needed for a while. Here’s hoping somebody appreciates that and makes un an offer.
